Belief Statements
I believe in teaching with the brain in mind
Students learn in many ways, whether it be visually, kinesthetic, or auditory. We need to teach with their individual brain in mind, allowing them to learn the way that they learn best. This includes accommodations and modifications for different students learning styles.
I believe in conscious discipline
Conscious discipline teaches empathy, choice, and logical consequences that can help students feel safe in and out of the classroom. Students have struggles internally and externally that affect different parts of their daily lives. Being the teacher, it is my responsibility to listen and help facilitate the Childs ability to handle life situations.
I believe in accepting all students
Diversity and disabilities are a common role in the classroom and I believe that the classroom environment should be a positive place where acceptance of all students is present. Students need to feel safe and welcomed in a classroom.
I believe in teaching with differentiation
Every student has a different learning style and needs to be taught in the way that they can learn. Differentiation can occur in four differnet ways; through the content, process, product, and learning environment. Differentiation is key to helping students achieve mastery in content and finding where the student excels, while promoting each students strengths as well as their weaknesses.
I believe in flexible seating
Flexible classrooms give students a choice in what kind of learning space works best for them, and help them to work collaboratively, communicate, and engage in critical thinking. Flexible seating has many positive outcomes such as; more engaged students, increased motivation, and an overall positive classroom.
When working with students, positive outlooks are needed to ensure the student that this is a safe place to learn. Students need to feel safe and cared for before learning can occur. Our students come with many struggles and they need to know they can trust us to make them feel safe.
